The Word of the Day on dictionary.com for today is...

INEFFABLE.

This makes me happy, 'cause... well, it does. Also, Good Omens. And yes, that is a perfectly valid reason, why do you ask?

This one's for Ianto.

Do I need more explanation? I don't think I do.

(Disclaimer: Not mine in any sense. Just one of my favourite poems.)

Stop All The Clocks

by W.H. Auden

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum,
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead,
Put crepe bows around the necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policeman wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one:
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods:
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

tosh- the ponder stibbons of torchwood
I've discovered the cure for Children of Earth-induced depression.

...

Listening to Torchwood audio books. Especially The Sin Eaters which has a) a mightily weird plot b) disappearing insects and c) Gareth David-Lloyd reading it.

c) is the main attraction for me. His impression of Jack's accent is pretty awesome, really.

(I've also got a DW audiobook downloaded... read by Bernard Cribbins! Just had to have that one.)

HOLY CRAP, guys.

This will be in some kind of order... should make sense but forgive me if it doesn't, I am still in shock after all...

...no, brain, now is not the time to suggest writing Much Ado About Nothing-Torchwood style with Jack and John as Beatrice and Benedick.

Really, not the time.

(hmm. all my posts this week have been TW-related. Ah well.)

Now, I had doubts about the (much shortened) third season of Torchwood.

But goddamn it, if the rest of the week is as good as today's episode was, um... I may have to start working on forgiving RTD (long story, don't ask).

SPOILERS.... ARE COMING )

2. Fox Mulder (X-Files)
3. Mason (Dead Like Me)
4. Alex Rousseau (Lost)
5. Owen Harper (Torchwood)
6. Tara Thornton (True Blood)

8. Jenny (Doctor Who)
9. Topher Brink (Dollhouse)
10. Kaylee Frye (Firefly)
11. Jacob (Lost)
12. Billy Prior (Regeneration trilogy)

Torchwood radio play #3: The Dead Line

Um.

Well. For the first time ever, a Radio Four afternoon play just reduced me to tears.

Basically, there's a scene in The Dead Line where Ianto talks about Jack, and their relationship, and all his worries and fears come out.

And OH GOD it slightly sort of broke my heart a little. Feeling a bit depressed now.

(it's a really good episode, btw)

EDIT: Just finished the episode. Made me cry again, but happy/relieved tears this time. Also, just remembered exactly why I love Jack so much.

(I will say nothing more, in case you haven't heard it yet.)

Stuff from today.

#1. Saw Public Enemies at the cinema. Awesome movie. Johnny Depp was fab as usual. Can really see why Marion Cotillard got that Oscar.

Also, somewhat fascinated by Christian Bale's character. Odd, because the guy who was in charge of finding John Dillinger is a bit of a weird obsession even for me.

#2. Work was threatening to dissolve into utter hysteria at various points today.
(Seriously, whatever you've heard about tax offices being dull and boring... they're not. Or at least, mine isn't. Maybe we're the exception.)

#3. Thank you so much, Jeremy Clarkson. Because of you I now find myself mentally replacing the word "orgasm" with "crisis". On the other hand... why exactly is Top Gear so comforting (and hilarious) to me? Must ponder.

#4. HOLY SHIT Stephen Fry's lost a lot of weight. By doing so, I think he's actually galvanised me into actually doing something about my own weight issues. The things I'll do just because of my heroes...

#5. Discovered Dead Like Me. Love it already. Combination of factors, really... a) George is awesome, b) Mandy Freaking Patinkin, people and c) Callum Blue, who's totally hot. Also, the mythology of the show is pretty interesting too. And there may be a Supernatural crossover in the works (because hey, Spnl has Reapers too).

That's it. Now one more ep of DLM, then bed.

Just listened to "Asylum".

It was pretty good. The show actually works rather well in audio format.

Really, though, I just have one thing to say.

PC Andy Davidson is fantastic. And brilliant, and generally wonderful, and he doesn't get nearly enough screentime.

Bring on tomorrow's episode, I say.

I beg your pardon? [eric]
In my local bookstore recently, I found that someone's done a reprint of Wuthering Heights. Now, ordinarily, that'd be a good thing, it's a good book and more people should read it.

Unfortunately, when I looked a little closer, I realised that a) the book was in the same section of the store as Twilight, b) it had a suspiciously Twilight-like cover design and c) there was a little rosette thing saying "Bella and Edward's favourite book" on the front.

When I done WTFing, I also found that the blurb described it as "the greatest love story ever told". This is frankly very worrying, because Wuthering Heights ISN'T really a love story - Heathcliff and Cathy's relationship is about as messed up as a relationship can get, and Heathcliff himself is not some romantic fairytale prince who's going to ride in on a white horse and rescue [Cathy/the reader]. He's a dangerous, moody, obsessive bastard, really. But then... I guess the Twilight fans are used to that, aren't they?

It seems that some moneyhungry twat publishing-industry person thinks that it's a GOOD idea to sell Wuthering Heights to the legions of Twilight fans out there. Which makes me very concerned that a whole generation of young girls are going to grow up with a very twisted idea of what an adult relationship should be.

Also, as with many things Twilight, it does make me want to stab things. Hence I shall try to forget all about it and go watch The Truth About Demons on Youtube.

Went to the cinema today, seeing Blood: the last vampire. More on that later.

The trailers beforehand were for Public Enemies (new Johnny Depp movie), Sherlock Holmes (new Robert Downey Jnr movie) and Inglourious Basterds (new Quentin Tarantino, no the name is not misspelled). So, basically, just those three trailers alone were worth the £5 I paid for the ticket.

Incidentally...
a) I think Johnny Depp is actually getting more attractive as he gets older.
b) HOLY SHIT that Sherlock Holmes movie looks awesome.
c) Inglourious Basterds is making me go *squee* a lot. Looks AWESOME.

The movie I actually WENT to see was good too. It's an adaptation of some manga that I only heard of today, but it works well as a movie too. I think the fact that none of the actors were big names probably helped - I'm serious, I didn't recognise a single person. Also it's a whole new vampire-based fandom for me to play with.

And yes, there are crossovers brewing. Dammit.

I jusst have one general, non-spoilery thing to say.

I FRAKKING LOVE THIS SHOW. Where else would you find this mix of sex and violence and blood and pure, utter, side-splittingly hilarious crack?

Anyways....

Spoilers behind here )
